It is an Orisha or Jinn (two different African naming conventions for similar kinds of ethereal creatures.) This will be one of the young watchers observing and recording a critical battle with implications for all the known and unknown galaxies.

It's big (roughly 10 stories)and it was designed partly to blend common African animal motifs and and to integrate some SteamPunk motifs.
The Thinking Beast

I submitted this guy to my CG portfolio as part of a deep ocean scene for an in development personal project. I believe I may have described everything possible in the deep sea submission. One additional piece of info...one of the many themes of my Nommo: New Stories of Ra! is not to judge a book by it's cover. Thinking Beasts are very large,(roughly 40 stories high) but they are not evil and as their legendary name would suggest they aren't dumb either.
Started in XSI, reworked in Maya, tweaked and rendered and textured in modo.

Hopefully, I've hit a horror nerve that puts the viewer in the position of the Cloud Soldier(the little guy). The sheer horror of being at such a disadvantage in that serene moment after the Thinking Beast has identified the interloper as no huge threat, but before the Beast actually begins pursuit.

A scene rendering test for a Cg story I'm developing. The Thinking Beast has been awakened...by a Cloud Soldier no less. More info on my Blog: http://www.nommothemovie.blogspot.com/
